Maker of the Month: Shelly Perkins

Shelly Perkins at Blue Magpie March 2024

Shelly is a dynamic freelance wildlife artist who combines her conservation and travel passion into her vibrant creations. Her inspiration comes from the untamed beauty of the natural world, captured in a style that celebrates the raw energy and unpredictable wonder of nature itself.

Through a masterful blend of techniques, Shelly creates mesmerizing line drawings, vibrant painted textures, and ethereal watercolour washes, each element meticulously layered together digitally to bring her stunning illustrations to life. Some of her pieces showcase as many as 150 intricate layers, each one adding depth, texture, and a sense of drama and movement to the final work.

Shelly prints all her illustrations using the high-quality Giclee technique, ensuring her art retains its vibrant colours and delicate details when displayed in homes and galleries worldwide. As part of her inspiring journey, Shelly has chronicled her travels to Africa in a beautifully crafted book - a treasure trove of immersive safari sketches, evocative photographs, and stunning artwork that transport the reader directly into the heart of the wild.
